Until last year I was a thriving henna head. I loved how the herb made my hair thick, shiny and healthy. The advantages consisted of very strong hair strands, manageability of my coils and elongated fluffy curls. However, after using henna for 3 years, I noticed that I was beginning to develop a habit. It was absolutely mandatory to henna my hair every 6 weeks. The experience was all too familiar; it was almost like being on creamy crack all over again (without the harsh chemicals). I felt like I NEEDED henna to make my hair stand out. When I realized I had an addiction to henna, I also began to notice my gray hair coming in FULL FORCE. Henna tends to turn gray hair an orange/coppery color. No matter how much I henna’d my hair; the grays never turned the red/burgundy color I wanted. So I came to terms with my addiction to henna and graying hair. I decided to stop the henna treatments. Even though, I have overcome the henna addiction, my hair is less fluffy and the shrinkage is NO JOKE. But I’ve learned to work with what I have. Some days are better than others. While the henna did help with consistency, I'm learning new tricks on along the way. Natural hair is a continual journey......
The other day, I almost had a relapse, I wanted to Henna very badly but I thought about the consequences…..Those ugly orange strands of hair….
