Each time I wash my hair with shampoo I notice that my hair is EXTREMELY dry, often times causing breakage. This is even the case with Sulfate Shampoo. It takes 2-3 days to get moisture back in my hair thus the reason I hate washing my hair. I know shampooing my hair is very important to remove all dirt and product build up. But I also experience brittle and dry hair after shampoo washing. So instead of washing my hair every week with shampoo, I co-wash in between shampoos (2 times a month). I use Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose (AOHR) and I add a little baking soda. After I co-wash I notice my hair is soft and still have some moisture. This could be from a little remaining product on my hair, but that’s fine with me, because I know I will be shampooing my hair the following week to remove ALL product. Here are the benefits I have found from co-washing my hair:
- Products last longer and I save money (When I co-wash I don’t have to use a large amount of product to put the moisture back in my hair).
- Makes de-tangling my hair easy.
- Eliminates dryness and makes wash and go styling a reality.
- Co-Washing does not strip my hair of its natural oils.
Now ladies please be advised, the over use of a conditioner on your hair can lead to breakage because it softens the hair causing low porosity strands and fragile hair. A sign that you have reached this point... is your hair being very stretchy and mushy when its wet. I would not suggest co-washing every day or very often. Co-washing should be in moderation... This is based entirely on my hair experience.
Remember ladies do what works for your hair!
