A couple weeks ago, I received several products gifted by Madame CJ Walker Hair Care Company. Vivian Randolph, President of Madame CJ Walker Enterprise of Indianapolis, Indiana, continues to keep the legacy of Madame CJ Walker Hair Care Products available. I was thrilled to receive the products because of the history and legacy of Madame CJ Walker. She was the first black woman to become a self-made millionaire by developing hair care products to promote hair growth amongst Black American women. Madame Walker was an entrepreneur, a pioneer of the hair care industry, a philanthropist and political activist. Her legacy lives on today.
The Product: Madame CJ Walker Criteria Vegetable Shampoo
Review: The shampoo is pretty thin, so I applied it directly to my scalp, and massaged in. Once it was in my hair, there was a pretty good lather. My hair had not been washed for 2 weeks, so I sectioned it and scrubbed thoroughly. Once completed, I rinsed and noticed my hair was squeaky clean, no need for a second wash. Also, I really noticed the tea tree oil because my scalp felt really good with a nice tingle. Overall, I was impressed with the cleanliness of my hair. I would consider this shampoo as a great clarifying cleanse, it removes product build-up with one wash.
Debunking a Myth: Madame CJ Walker did not invent the straightening comb or relaxer (Check the facts here) . The hot comb was invented by a Frenchmen and used as early as the 1880s in Europe (Click here to learn about the inventor). The hot comb reached America and was sold in Bloomingdales and Sears catalogues in 1890, 16 years before Madame Walker developed her line of hair care products. The first sign of a chemical relaxer was developed in 1877 (again years before Madame Walker started her hair company). Let's spread the truth of Madame CJ Walker Legacy!!!
